Primary Purpose:

Functions as a technology leader, department manager or administrative leader, in a role that implements design technology within the engineering strategy. May have influence in developing strategy. Responsible for execution of assigned projects.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Executes projects using design tools to deliver engineering deliverables including: operating procedures, work instructions, inter discipline modelling approach, engineering requirements and input for configuring the design system for multiple engineering disciplines and tool sets. Setup, maintain and provide guidance on global work sharing with design software. Analyze issues, suggest workarounds, and report bugs to software vendors. Support multiple complex projects spanning multiple business lines, disciplines, and tool sets. Interact with clients for project turnover. Coordinate training and support across multiple offices / regions. Evaluate new features / functions in design tools in concert with process owners and subject matter experts. Maintain a problem tracking log that expedites problem resolution. Coordinate multidiscipline training needs. Communicate strategy company wide. Owns project setup / maintenance. Interfaces design tools with related software products. Plans / implements software upgrade to minimize impact on project execution. Expands knowledge to multiple tools across a suite of tools. Develops knowledge of multiple commercial design tools. Expands knowledge to multiple B&V technologies and business lines. Identified as a SME across multiple disciplines, multiple tool sets, and multiple business lines. Identifies cost / time saving opportunities through custom applications. Gather requirements to define scope of new tools. Represent the business line on enterprise-wide committees related to design tool configuration / administration. Directs software development of custom applications. Provides feedback to process owners on changes required due to new design software. Suggest improvements to processes/standards based on design software. Review and suggest improvements to process and standards based on knowledge of multiple design tools. Provides input to existing and new process spanning multiple disciplines or multiple tool sets. Accountable for process ownership. Keep abreast of new technology and evaluate their potential application. Support process owners in evaluating applications, including recommendations for selection. Work with 3rd party software vendors to setup, maintain and upgrade databases, networks and servers to support design software. Review database changes to improve functionality. Architects systems / networks for new and existing tools. Ensures configuration consistency across projects within the business line and consistent with other business lines. Oversees preemptive monitoring / analysis of systems / networks. Works with vendors to suggest tool improvement based on immerging technologies. Provide direction to a group of design technologists. Oversee performance management, career planning, recognition, learning and development. Participate in compensation management, succession planning, disciplinary actions, employee relations and workforce planning. Manage resources typically involving multiple business lines or disciplines. Common responsibilities include staffing, recruiting, budgets, tools and/or processes. Resolves resource conflicts and identifies training needs. Influences / implements resource management strategy. Administrative responsibilities typically include supervising group operations and budgets. May support IT, office administration, and facilities. Ensures policies, procedures and processes are effectively developed, implemented and communicated for workgroup. Ensures adherence to corporate and division programs. May approve timesheets and expense reports. Pending nature of role, scope of influence may include a significant-size group. May Influence costs, productivity or competitiveness. Geographic responsibility may be for 1+ offices or a small region. Typical scope involves less complex business line or technology responsibility and/or less complex discipline responsibility. Support mitigation of risk related to projects / technologies.

Minimum Qualifications:

Typically a minimum of 15 plus years related work experience. Preferred Job Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology or sciences preferred or any other degree, specialized training, or experience, that makes the individual uniquely qualified to perform the job responsibilities.
