Position Description

The National Account Scientific Associate Director/ Director is part of a field-based team that supports Allergan’s Chief Medical Office (CMO) strategic priorities related to the managed markets segment.

The National Account Scientific Associate Director/ Director will serve as a liaison to medical/scientific and managed care decision makers. This individual is responsible for establishing, developing, and maintaining professional relationships with healthcare practitioners involved in formulary development, clinical/outcomes investigators, and healthcare decision makers in prioritized national and select regional managed market accounts. The National Account Scientific Associate Director/ Director will educate formulary decision makers and influencers on the clinical and value proposition for new therapies to facilitate optimal patient outcomes with Allergan products.


Account and Health Care Decision Maker Engagement

  1. Develops professional relationships with formulary decision makers and influencers to ensure access to current medical and scientific information on Allergan products and areas of therapeutic interest, as aligned with National Account Engagement strategy

  2. Coordinate and deliver scientific, health outcomes, and disease awareness information as presentations or other forms of scientific exchange to national and select regional managed care organizations, pharmacy benefit management companies, health care systems, government payers, and relevant medical and scientific professionals involved with formulary decision making

  3. Supports product pre-launch, launch and post-launch activities and communication plans per National Account Engagement strategy

  4. Captures, reports and interprets customer insights to inform National Account Engagement strategy

  5. Assess the health outcomes research capabilities of national and select regionally based managed care organizations and facilitate collaborative research opportunities

  6. Conduct discussions to identify potential outcomes research gaps for the company and communicate feedback to internal HEOR stakeholders for consideration of new outcomes research strategies

HEOR and Account Strategy

  1. Responsible for ensuring the development of an account engagement plan utilizing the product/therapeutic area strategy for key Allergan products

  2. Lead health outcomes related projects and research initiatives as requested by Management

  3. Collaborates with Managed Markets, Medical Affairs (MSLs, Medical Directors), and Health Economics Outcomes Research (HEOR) colleagues as needed

Training and administrative

  1. Attends and supports scientific and medical congresses. Maximizes internal and external customer engagement opportunities during medical conference meetings

  2. Provide training support to Managed Markets Account Managers and other internal stakeholders

  3. Complete all required training, activity documentation, expense reporting, and other administrative responsibilities

  4. Conducts all business activities in accordance with corporate policy and state/federal law.



Education and Experience

  • PharmD, MD, PhD preferred or other recognized education with supporting applicable health science background

  • Minimum 8 years pharmaceutical industry or managed care industry experience

  • Field-based medical experience in the pharmaceutical industry and/or experience within a key managed market segment is highly preferred

  • National payer experience highly preferred

  • Thorough knowledge of clinical medicine, managed markets, pharmacoeconomics, disease/population management, & healthcare trends desired

  • Ability to communicate complex scientific and clinical information to colleagues and health care decision makers

  • Strong competency in evidence based medicine with the ability to differentiate and communicate clinical and overall product value

  • Must be able to organize, prioritize, and work effectively in a constantly changing environment
