Sharp HealthCare Oncology Registrar Trainee, Staffing Resource Network in San Diego, California


The qualified candidate will identify cancer cases by reviewing pathology reports, the diagnosis index, radiation oncology log, and abstract cancer-related information into the cancer registry data base in order to meet state mandated cancer reporting as well as submit data to the National Cancer Database; perform annual follow-up of all patients in the cancer registry database, assist with tumor board conference. Under direction of the cancer registry supervisor, assist department in maintaining compliance to Commission on Cancer Program standards, assist in organizing and preparing for Oncology Advisory Committee, and other registry duties as assigned.

This is a float pool position through Staffing Resource Network (SRN). The SRN department offers opportunities to experience a wide range of patient care at various sites within Sharp HealthCare. Sharp promotes quality patient-family centered care in a team environment with excellent customer service. This position requires an enthusiastic, positive individual willing to be a part of a dynamic float pool servicing all of Sharp HealthCare.

Sharp System Services have campuses located in the communities of Kearny Mesa and Serra Mesa and consist of the Spectrum location, the Ruffin Road location and Sharp Operations Center (SOC). These offices provide the centralized integrated system support services to the operating entities within the system. These services include: Strategic Planning, Business Development, Information Technology, Compliance, Internal Audit, Legal, Risk Management and Insurance, Contracts, Human Resources, Facilities Management and Development, Clinical Effectiveness, Finance, Nursing, Systems Supply Chain Services, Marketing and Communications, The Sharp Experience and Sharp University.

Required Skills and Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent

One (1) year working in a cancer registry assisting with registry operations: follow-up, case finding and tumor board conferences as well experience using cancer reporting software: MetriQ, CNEXT, or ERS.

Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR)

Proficient in using computer and MS Word/ Excel/ PowerPoint;

Currently enrolled in a Cancer Information Management Course recognized by the National Cancer Registrars’' Association with a goal to complete certification by 2015
