Serves as an assistant to a Licensed/Certified Optician in performing limited optical duties, as allowed by state law.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Under direct supervision of a Licensed/Certified Optician may be assigned to perform the following functions: Interprets lenses and eyewear written prescriptions for patrons requiring optical devices to correct visual or ocular anomalies. Assists patrons in frame selection and makes recommendations as to correct size and fit based on facial structure and optical prescription. Forwards selected frames with prescription order form for lenses to authorized lab for processing. Receives completed order and verify accuracy of prescription order. If discrepancies are noted, informs supervisor and return prescription order for replacement, correction, etc. As necessary, notifies patron concerned of receipt of merchandise. May be required to fabricate lenses (cut, grind, polish or tint), assemble and mount lenses into frames, and make minor repairs such as replacing screws, nose pads, realigning and remounting lenses, etc. Fits patron with finished products and adjusts lenses and frames as necessary. Instructs patrons on the general care of eyewear. Provides completed eyewear to Licensed/Certified Optician for final inspection and approval. May dispense/transfer possession of completed eyewear to patron, as allowed by state law. Maintains files and logs of work orders forwarded to and received from manufacturer. Operates a cash register; collects and accounts for cash received from patrons and prepares Salespersons Daily Report . Assists with monthly inventory. Exercise tack, good manners and courtesy when serving and assisting customers. This is expressed by tactfully responding to patrons inquiries and assisting patrons in a prompt and friendly manner. Works under the general supervision of a designated supervisor who makes assignment, and is available for advice and assistance. Performs within the framework of established policies and procedures and work is reviewed for accuracy and adequacy, adherence to procedures and instructions, and customer satisfaction. Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications: GENERAL EXPERIENCE:
One year of responsible experience in clerical, office or retail sales store work of any kind that the applicant has demonstrated the ability to perform satisfactorily in the position to be filled.
SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE:
One year of study (30 credit hours) completed in a college, university, or junior college above the high school level may be substituted for 1 year of general experience.
AND SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
One year of experience recommending frames based on correct size, fit, facial structure, color of frames and lenses and performing minor repairs on frames.
